Prompts: A prophet at the beginning, a mysterious death, a kidnapping, a spirit of an element, a jar of honey, a cape, a belt, a bathtub, a helmet, a fake item, a child's toy, a book of prophecies, a cake, a dress, during an eclipse, mid-winter snow fall, a rain storm, hottest day in summer
“CARA! Stop agieling him!!“
Cara turned to see Kahlan rushing towards her, but didn't move the screaming weapon away from the odd looking man, who had the misfortune to come within reach of her Agiel.
“He looks mighty suspicious and has yet to say a single word!“
Kahlan approached and clutched Cara's wrist firmly, pulling it back. She met Cara's gaze pleadingly, still breathing hard after her quick run. “He had no chance to offer any explanation - you agiel'd him as soon as he appeared!“
Cara rolled her eyes. There was no way the man could be less outlandish without her agieling him. Kahlan was always too kind-hearted about strangers. She looked down at the gasping man to their feet. Well, he really didn't look dangerous per se - but still. The wizard had been kidnapped - who could fathom that this man had nothing to do with it? Kahlan could not be free from doubt about it either. So every one who appeared out of thin air had to be shady, especially when they looked that bizarre.
“Who are you?“ Cara asked, wielding her Agiel playfully as if she was going to stab him, if his answer did not suit her.
“My name is Constantine - I am the prophet of the purple rivers!“
Cara only casted a side-glance over to Kahlan, her satisfied smirk reaching unseen proportions. “Sure...“ She drawled, her eyes never leaving Kahlan‘s, who suddenly looked as if someone just stole her candy. “And I‘m the princess of Tamarang.“
“NO! You don't understand! There is no time!!“ The alleged prophet stumbled awkwardly back to his feet.
“Time for what?“ Kahlan asked, concern evident in her features, feeling out for the man who appeared to be in such distress - and maybe even had to deal with some serious mental issues.
The prophet produced a very ancient looking book from under his cape and raised it skyward above his head. Cara took a pointed step backwards, pulling Kahlan with her in the progress.
“What is this?“ Cara asked him suspiciously, eyes narrowing as she noticed Kahlan leaning closer. “It‘s a book...“ The Confessor whispered wistfully, her attention fixed on the prophet.
Cara turned her head slowly and stared Kahlan down until the Confessor sensed she had become the center of Cara‘s attention. But Cara choose to not say a word at first - she just continued to stare with wide eyes at her traveling companion, shaking head gradually. After a moment, when she felt Kahlan was not getting the hint, she hissed. “I can clearly see it's a book! But. What. Does. It. Do!?“
“It is the book of prophecies!“ The self-proclaimed prophet all but screeched, as if it was the most ridiculous question someone could dare to ask. “The prophecies reveal that the world of the living will perish!“ He went on in a whining, high-pitched voice.
“You obviously got the outdated version,“ Cara said, hands on her hips. “We defeated the Keeper weeks ago! The rift to the Underworld has been sealed!“
“NO! The prophecies appeared just yesterday! Day will become night, and elementary natural forces will be the beginning of the end! The dead will walk among the living! HEED MY WORDS THIS IS THE END OF THE WORLD WE KNEW!“ With that the prophet started to run back in the direction from where he had come as suddenly haunting lightening flashed and loud thunder rolled.
Cara and Kahlan could only stand by and watch as the prophet was struck by a lightning bolt and went up in flames in a blazing inferno. A moment later it was gone as fast as it came and the thunder and lightning disappeared, leaving only a steaming pile of ash--were the prophet had been struck-- behind. The only indication it had actually happened.
“He shouldn't have held that book of his so high.“ Cara stated, taking in Kahlan‘s shocked expression with a smirk.
“Cara.“ Kahlan said quietly. “No one deserves to die like this. Zedd would know what to make out of those prophecies and his mysterious death. We need to find him. Maybe Richard was able to gather new information yet. Let‘s head into town to meet with him.“
~~~~~~
“What do you mean, you have no free room for the MOTHER CONFESSOR?“ Cara growled, fingers clasping around the shaft of her Agiel, placing it pointedly onto the counter.
The tavern owner looked panic-stricken. “I‘m so very sorry, Mother Confessor, but I just gave my best room away--not even an hour ago. The woman already paid for her whole stay in full! And I don't believe she will leave her room to you...“ He eyed Cara out of the corners of his eyes. “She is equally short tempered.“
The Confessor gave him a knowing smile. “I doubt that.“ Kahlan murmured under her breath. Taking her Agiel from the counter Cara walked toward the stairs of the inn, “I'll see if I can persuade this woman to leave the room to us.“
“Cara!“ Kahlan yelled after her. “We‘ll look in another tavern for a room. Leave her be!“
But Cara was already up the stairs and Kahlan only saw her red leather disappear behind the corner. She would not have Cara agieling an innocent woman out of her own room, only so she and Cara could stay there instead. With that in mind, she hurried after Cara to prevent the woman occupying the room from the shock of her life and possibly an Agiel induced heart-attack.
Upstairs, Cara had already managed to pry open the door to the room but found it empty. Only a small leather bag on one of the two chairs and a light dress draped over the other indicated an occupation of the room at all.
She noticed steam rise from under the door of the adjuring room and concluded it to be an en-suite bathroom. It didn't even occur to her that it could be inappropriate to violate the privacy of a stranger while bathing - or intruding in a room that is locked for that matter. She pulled the door to the bathroom open, just as Kahlan entered through the other.
As a consequence of the small proportions of the room itself, a dense fog had gathered and therefore Cara could only make out the contours of a bathtub and someone occupying it. As the fog slowly began to fade, the blonde woman who hadn't even bothered to look up at her intruders as the door was pulled open, now lazily turned her head in their direction. Kahlan, who was about to scold Cara for intruding on someones utmost privacy stopped mid-sentence and stared wide eyed at the figure resting in the tub. Kahlan could tell by Cara‘s similar reaction that the sight in front of them caught the Mord‘Sith equally off guard.
“Denna.“ Cara hissed menacingly. A lazy smile spread over the platinum blonde's features, taking in Cara‘s - as well as Kahlan‘s - surprised expressions with one of pure delight.
“Cara, Confessor - how charming of you to join me - and as intriguing it would indeed be, I doubt you both will find enough space in the tub - unless you don‘t mind that it could get a little cramped.“
Denna‘s remark brought Kahlan out of her shock induced haze and she turned her head to the side, blushing slightly, as she realized she had stared at the stark naked Mord‘Sith the entire time.
However, as Denna spoke again, Kahlan found herself gazing back at the former Mord‘Sith. “So either you're going to join me or you close that door - it's getting fairly cold.“ The slight blush on Kahlan‘s face turned crimson in shade as she noticed Denna‘s body shared that very notion and reacted accordingly.
Kahlan schooled her gaze to a point above Denna‘s head. She couldn't tell if the blonde had noticed her reaction or rather didn't want to know. Only as she caught Denna‘s knowing smirk and the blonde winked at her, Kahlan felt her embarrassment burn hot on her cheeks once more. As Cara finally spoke up, she was more than grateful for the distraction.
“Get out of the tub.“ Cara growled. Only as Denna complied and rose to a standing position, water cascading down her body in the process - Kahlan thought that it might have been better, if Cara hadn‘t said a word after all. Denna took a pointed step out of the bath and the water formed a puddle at her feet.
The platinum blonde grabbed a towel from the ground, scantily drying herself off and walked past them into the main room.
“The dead will walk among the living...“ Kahlan whispered to Cara, reciting the words of the prophet.
“I am not dead.“ Denna commented smugly as she turned to face them - still buck naked - towel drying her long hair.
Cara smirked. Some things would never change, such as Denna‘s excellent hearing or her non-existent sense of modesty. Denna caught Cara‘s look and pursed her lips. “If I had ever been shy about my physical assets - my time in the Underworld would have taught me to abandon them.“
“You are a baneling!“ Kahlan breathed. She hadn't given much thought to the mystery how Denna could be alive and kicking, but the thought the arrogant Mord‘Sith could be a baneling had not occurred to her until now.
Denna rolled her eyes skyward. “I drank shadow water. So all the tight flesh you're studying so attentively won't be rotting off my bones anytime soon.“
Kahlan‘s receding blush was back in a heartbeat and the ceiling looked suddenly most impressive and warranted further examination... Cara only bit her lip, not bothering to avert her gaze at all.
Denna retrieved the light colored dress from the chair and pulled it on. It was perfectly form-fitting and showed of a great expanse of her voluminous cleavage. Cara approved - as much as a Mord‘Sith could approve of a garment that were not Mord‘Sith leathers. Denna completed her attire with a dark brown leather belt, draping it loosely over her hips.
As Denna was finished dressing, she eyed Cara and Kahlan curiously. “Was there a reason why you stopped by other than watching me bathe?“
Cara chuckled darkly. “Isn't that reason enough, Mistress Denna?“ She mocked, but was slightly distracted by Kahlan‘s quiet, awkward humming. Had she known that it was so easy to make Kahlan so uncomfortable; she would have used it before now. It was absolutely delightful. Storing the information in her memory for future use, she turned her attention back to Denna, who by now looked dangerously bored at the lack of attention. Slipping a dagger in her boot, that looked like nothing more than a child‘s toy, Cara choose to not say anything of the matter to her former sister. She couldn't imagine Denna reacting well to the loss of her Agiels. But she promised herself to bring up the topic at a later point of time, purely for her own enjoyment seeing Denna fume.
“I‘m practically starving.“ The platinum blonde stated suddenly and turned on her heel, not waiting for Cara‘s nor Kahlan‘s reaction and stormed out of the room.
“All of this is so bizarre...“ Kahlan uttered before following Denna out into the hallway. Cara went after them with a shrug of her shoulders. She had witnessed stranger things.
~~~~
Cara and Kahlan found Denna downstairs at one of the tables of the tavern. The blonde Mord‘Sith was busy to get honey out of a glass jar, then smearing it over a piece of cake on her plate. Denna hummed in delight as she chewed her creation. As she caught the disturbed glances from Kahlan and Cara, her brows drew together. “Whauot?“ came the by the cake muffled scold.
“It looks disgusting!“ Cara commented, waving her hand at Denna‘s meal.
“This cake is absolutely tasteless!“ Denna said explanatory and poured more of the golden honey over the baked goods left on her plate. “So whats the news?“ She asked, before stuffing more of her cake-honey creation into her mouth.
“Zedd has been kidnapped.“ Kahlan declared mournfully. “And we can't find a trace of Richard either. He was supposed to be in this tavern to meet us. But we couldn't find him yet.“
“Then we should go out and search for him, don't we?“ Denna suggested between bites.
Cara raised a brow. “Excuse me? We?“
“Well...“ Denna drawled, “I would like to bathe in private next time - and unless you do want to join me... " She winked at Kahlan suggestively. "I don‘t see that happening until we find Richard and the wizard.“
Kahlan‘s blush returned full force. Since when was she blushing so easily?
“Come on! Let‘s go!“ Denna was already up and at the door as Kahlan and Cara stood from their respective chairs.
~~~~~
“Oh boy!“ Denna exclaimed as soon as she stepped outside. Kahlan and Cara shared that notion, as a sweltering heat wave hit them as well. “It must be the hottest day in summer,“ Kahlan noted absentmindedly.
“It‘s not hot,“ Cara announced, keeping her Mord‘Sith demeanor at the highest stage, even if she felt sweat already pouring down her back. Denna just shot her a knowing look.
Without warning, the weather changed and dark clouds blackened the sky above. In a matter of seconds it poured down in sheets. Denna and Kahlan‘s dresses were soaked to the skin at once.
Cara smirked, looking both of them over, as the water repelled on her leathers immediately.
She was about to comment on their drenched state, as suddenly the day became night. In the blink of an eye it was dark enough she couldn‘t see either Kahlan nor Denna anymore, even though they stood right beside her.
“What in the Underworld is happening?“ Denna asked somewhat irritated as she also took notice of the snow falling from the sky.
“This is the end of the world we knew...“ Kahlan squeaked as she felt the cold white flakes melt on her face. “The prophet was right after all!“
Cara growled darkly. Denna chimed in, purely out of habit.
*boooom*
With a sudden blast night became day again and all the strange natural elements disappeared.
And Zedd and Richard re-appeared out of nowhere. Cara grabbed both of her Agiels tightly.
“Wizard!“ Both of the Mord‘Sith growled in unison.
“Uhm... the spell I used this morning might have--but only might have--gone wrong.“ Zedd stated, retreating slowly backwards as he noticed Cara and Denna, looking equally murderous.
Denna leaned over to Kahlan. “Since when does the wizard wear that ridiculous helmet and Richard a dress?“
Kahlan looked as if she was about to faint any second now. “I have absolutely no idea. All of this is just utterly bizzare.."
