Denna & Cara: A Shipper’s Manifesto

Shippers who are looking for sticky, sugary fluff, LOVE, endless sweet- and cuteness: This particular pairing/ship is not what you're looking for.

You won't find a lovely 'we fall in love' or happy marriage and children story. Except this one, but it's really AU but sooo  alkdjflkdjfslf But nobody really expects that, right? Denna and Cara are unique, unshakeable and more than strong-willed.

When I'd need to describe their relationship with three words, it would be:

POWERFUL  //  INTENSE  //  THRILLING


Meet Denna and Cara:



Their on-screen relationship begins in Resurrection, as Richard's and Cara's quest leads them to a brothel run by none other than first Mistress Denna. The former Mord'Sith has found herself a new occupation since her unexpected and rather hasty departure from her sisters and former master, Darken Rahl, in the episode 'Bloodline'.

In the beginning it seems that Denna has fallen upon very hard times, but her current status as the Madame of the 'Palace of Athania' is merely a means to an end. Nobody can say though, that she isn't creative in her new line of work and how fast she has made it on the top! No pun intended.

After a warm welcome from Denna, ambiguous suggestions from Cara about Denna's new job and not at all decent laschivious looks, STARING - MORE STARING - STARING...

I mean come on, see how they are looking at each other and tell me there is nothing going on!? My subtext radar flashes like a neon sign looking at these two obviously! Have a look for yourself:


You don't look that way if you don't want to get in each others leathers!

.. Denna leaves Cara and Richard to themselfs, but not before referrering to Cara as 'old friend'. And it's clear that she does not refer to Richard at this point, because she turns right this moment to Cara and her eyes are never leaving hers, not even for a second. They are eye-fucking the whole time..

She also says that she hopes that Richard and Cara will indulge themselfs while they're in the brothel, at this point as well, Denna's blue eyes stay trained on Cara. When you ask me, she is TOTALLY OFFERING!

Later on, not even two minutes have passed since Denna had "other guests to attend to", that she catches Cara in the hallway, before she is able to leave the palace, which she only does because Richard ordered her to and she really would have liked to stay *wink* mhmmm...

Anyway, Denna, for whatever reason, longing, desire, stops Cara with the words:


Denna: "Leaving so soon Cara?"

Cara *undressing Denna with her eyes while speaking*: "Your merchandise is too delicate for my taste."

When you ask me, Cara is a bit offended that Denna didn't offer and is now a tad touchy...

Denna: "Of all the sisters of the Agiel, you are the last I expected to find with Richard."

This, is proving my theory that they've known each other before. I mean, it's obvious from how they behave around each other that they do, but this tells us, that they really had a deep very intimate relationship!

Seriously, they are not nice or behave fair, but the important thing is, they don't have to.

They are Mord'Sith, they don't do nice. Also, Denna's and Cara's relationship is quite different to the one Cara and Dahlia had. Cara is obviously stronger than Dahlia ever was - or ever will be - and tops her without effort.

Denna on the other hand is a HBIC, as is Cara. Denna wouldn't let herself top by anyone.. neither would Cara. They are butting heads constantly and they have this love-hate-relationship, where they can't live with each other, but not without each other either.


The Facts - why they are a match made in heaven the underworld:

- Mord'Sith
They're both Mord'Sith, they understand each other and have the same line of thinking, same values and upbringing.



- Broken
Pain, hurt and torture are no foreigners to them. They both grew into Mistresses of their own right and paid for that status with a part of their humanity. Nobody else, but another Mord'Sith can understand that kind of pain, that kind of expirence. They don't need to talk about it, because each of them knows what the other has been through. Even without words, they are able to comfort each other




- Outsider among their Sisters
Denna was first and then Cara followed later; they both have served the bond that once connected them with their sisters, even if not intended in the first place. They both know how it 'feels' to lose the only family they've known for most of their child- and later adulthood. Neither of them show that they care about that fact or would admit to that 'weakness', but it's painstakingly obvious that they both miss their fomer life or the connection.




- Struggle with 'feelings'
Kahlan is driving force for Cara to allow her feelings to blosom under the hard shell of her training. Denna is from the beginning the emotional type as far at it goes for a Mord'Sith. She is smiling, laughing and showing her feelings (rage, excitement) more than any other of her former sisters. Cara slowly learns to allow and live with them.




- A 'better' life
Eventually, during her journey with Richard, Kahlan and Zedd, Cara sees the 'error' in her ways and in time begins slowly to better herself. It is taking a lot of time, but eventually she comes around, more and more. Under the influence of Zedd and his constant talking about friends and her goals or schemes, Denna also begins to revaluate her future and considers to change her life, also for the better.


- Just for the record:
Denna did not die. *rolls eyes* I don't know why I write it down here, it's common knowledge.. If Denna had died, they would have found her body, or her body would have been hurt/destroyed like Leo's (if you're asking yourself now: who is Leo again? Don't! Just don't! You don't HAVE to know.. Ignorance is bliss.). Just remember, perfect, beautiful, Denna is going to be back in season 3! *nods*

Denna and Cara are just the PERFECT match for each other! They have so much in common, eerily so. Both are strong, independent and have a knack for pain and torture! xD And they are both gorgeous, but I guess I don't have to mention that..
