As Cara entered the barely lit room, Denna stood next to window, hands clasped firmly behind her back and peered out in the growing darkness. Cara had the distinct feeling that something was wrong.
"Denna?" she asked, her voice sounded inappropriate loud to her own ears, she lowered her tone, "what is it?"
The blonde stood motionless and for a moment and Cara was not sure, if Denna had even heard herl. Minutes went by in deafening silence and Cara was about to speak again, when Denna finally answered.
"I have these disturbing.." Denna paused and slowly turned around. She seemed unhealthy pale and restless, but more worrying even than that was the fear shinning in the blonde's eyes. Cara had never seen her looking like this, not even to some extent. It made her uneasy to see the woman, who was always hard and strong on the outside, in this weakened, fragile state.
"..feelings for you." Denna finished and stepped closer. Cara just stared at her, as Denna reached for her Agiel with shaking hands, then held it out for Cara to grab.
"Make them go away."

"Cara, you will share my bed tonight."
Denna's eyes widened barely noticeable, instinctively reaching behind herself, clutching Cara's gloved hand tightly in her own, "wouldn't one of the other Sisters be sufficient, my Lord? I require Cara's presence for the training of the new pe.."
"It would not, Denna." Darken Rahl interrupted, "you will have to find another night to bring them the pleasures of your joined Agiel's."
"But my Lord, ..."
"Enough!" He suddenly barked and stepped closer, invading her personal space. "What is it with you recently, Denna?" His eyes narrowed suspiciously, searching for the truth in her bright blue eyes. “It seems as if the flying sparks of hatred between you two have changed into inseparable togetherness!? This is most odd." His sickly sweet voice made Denna's hairs stand on end as he came even closer. "Why are you so persistent? Is there something you would like to tell me?
"No, my Lord.” Denna whispered, “I'm sorry," as her gaze went to the floor. Submission. Lord Rahl always favored submission.

"But he did not believe her,” Cara turned to Kahlan, "he always had this inexplicable ability to sense, when something was wrong." Cara returned her attention back to the sizzling flames, consuming the dry wood right in front of them.
"What happened then, Cara?" Kahlan asked softly, breaking the silence that had fallen between them. She rested her hand on Cara shoulder, spending comfort through her touch. Cara squirmed slightly on her seat, if it was because of her touch or the burden of her answer, Kahlan couldn't tell.
"Well..." Cara began hesitantly, "whatever feelings Denna may have had, they died that night at the end of Lord Rahl's Agiel.”
She inhaled deeply and continued after a moment, “Denna was broken by his hand once again, but this time he definitely broke something deep inside her, something what could not be restored. I did not recognize the shell of the woman she was, after he was through with her, as if he had torn her apart and put her back together, in the way he pleased. She was an entirely different person. Lost to me, as to the sane world."
Kahlan only stared blankly, it was so easy to forget the human beings beneath the cruelty what were Mord'Sith, so easy to see them just as monsters – to push aside the reasons why they behaved the way they did. Kahlan pressed her palms down on her knees, bracing herself against the feelings of guilt and compassion, that almost overwhelmed her. Cara rose from the log and started in direction of her bedroll.
"But you killed her?" Kahlan asked, making Cara halt midway.
Cara turned her head in Kahlan's direction, but did not meet her eyes,
"No. I've finally freed her."
